Why was Pismo Beach closed?
Fifteen the state of California closed Pismo Beach State Vehicular Recreation Area due to flooding concerns from the Arroyo Grande Creek. The closure followed an order by the California Coastal Commission that stated that the park was no longer safe when the creek is flowing as planned.
Friends of Oceano Dunes, a nonprofit organization, plans to file a lawsuit against 15 in order to keep the park open. Although many visitors are disappointed with this change, some locals enjoy hiking and cycling through its scenic canyons and dunes
Is Pismo closed?
Pismo State Park remains open to daily vehicle traffic between 7 a.m. and 1 hour after sunset, however the new closing time aligns with other state park coastal units in order to improve visitor experience and conserve resources.
The entrance fee has increased from $5 per car to $7 per car for all visitors, but this will help cover the additional costs of maintaining the park facilities and roadsides . The beach is now open for swimming at low tide only; previously it was open at high tide as well due to erosion concerns on adjacent private property .
Camping is available year-round except during winter storm conditions when it closes December 1 through March 31st . Visitors are asked not drive off pavement onto fragile chaparral or riparian habitat areas as these areas may be closed without notice if necessary to protect vegetation or wildlife populations
Is overnight camping allowed at Pismo Beach?
Camping and beach bonfires are only permitted on the State Beach which is due South of North Pismo Beach. The State Beach is regulated by California State Parks, so make sure to check their website for restrictions before heading out.
Overnight camping at Pismo Beach is not recommended as there’s a lot of natural areas to explore nearby. If you’re looking for an adventure without leaving town, consider staying in one of the many local campgrounds instead. Bonfires are also not allowed on the beach – pack your marshmallows elsewhere.
Can you sleep on the beach in Pismo Beach?
Camping is allowed south of Post 2 on the beach and in the open dune area. There are no defined spaces, so you’re free to set up your camp anywhere within those boundaries.
The vehicle length limit is 40 feet, but tents are also allowed for an added layer of privacy and convenience while camping out on the beach. If you need to leave during the night or early morning hours, be sure to pack up all your gear as there’s a 30-minute drive back north before it gets dark again.

Can you still ride at Pismo Beach?
Yes, Pismo State Beach and the adjacent Oceano Dunes State Recreational Vehicle Area both allow vehicles on our 8 miles of drivable beach and dune areas.
Best conditions are at low tide, the speed limit is 15 mph, and staying on the hard packed sand will keep you out of trouble. Be sure to bring a map with you when visiting as there are several access points from Highway 1 that can be confusing if not familiarized with them beforehand.
Although high tide normally covers up most evidence of vehicle traffic on our beaches, please respect posted signage for closures during certain times of year such as winter storms or Fire Season (which runs from October through May in California). Remember to leave all non-essential items behind – including pets – when driving onto state property in order to preserve these natural resources for future visitors
Can you drink alcohol at Pismo Beach?
