Why is fish camp called Fish Camp?

Fish Camp got its name from a fish hatchery that was once located there. The first settlers arrived in the area around 1894 and called it Fish Camp because of the many fish ponds present at the site.

In 1913, a post office opened up and began to use the original train depot as its mailing address – hence, Fish Camp became known as “the railroad town”. By 1950, when Interstate 5 was built through California, businesses were moving out of Fish Camp due to competition from bigger cities nearby such as Sacramento and Redding .

However, thanks to tourism and outdoor recreation opportunities like fishing , hunting , bird watching , biking , camping etc., today’s Fish Camp is thriving once again.
